Rich with 20 centuries of history, Bayonne today offers the eyes of the novice stroller or the seasoned amateur an exceptional architectural landscape. Through the clear lines of Dominique Duplantier, a unique intertwining of ancient and contemporary streets and neighborhoods, public and private buildings, bourgeois and popular, religious and military, is revealed...

The pen-and-ink drawings by Dominique Duplantier, colored by Francine Callède, alternate between plans and perspectives and offer completely new views of the city in a sensitive graphic style that captures the variety and originality of each of the streets of the capital of Labourd.

This architectural promenade is enriched by texts from art historian Odile Contamin, and comments from urban planner Denis Caniaux, for the new districts of Bayonne. They invite the reader to discover the soul of a city that has been built century after century at the foot of the Pyrenees and at the confluence of waters, open to external influences but strong with a unique personality.

Dominique DUPLANTIERA draughtsman, he developed a technique for axonometric representation of cities and, as such, contributed to the illustration of the Gallimard Guides. He regularly collaborates with numerous publishers, magazines, and cartography companies.

Francine CALLEDEA trained draughtswoman and engraver, she has been coloring most of Dominique Duplantier's architectural plans and drawings since 1989. Her rich color palette particularly highlights the drawings of buildings and monuments, as well as stonework and woodwork.

Odile CONTAMINAn art historian and honorary curator of the Edmond Rostand Museum in Cambo-les-Bains, she has already contributed to the publication of several works on Basque architectural heritage (Maisons du Pays Basque, Chapelles du Pays Basque).

Denis CANIAUXAn urban planner, he has worked on the rehabilitation of several historic city centers, such as Bayonne and Bordeaux. He is the author of an anthology of urban poetics, "Les Villes de papiers," published in 2004 by Confluences.

Josette PONTETA historian, Doctor of Human Sciences, and Professor at Michel de Montaigne University in Bordeaux, she is the author of numerous works, including "l'Histoire de Bayonne," published in 1991 by Privat.
