Our hunting collection consists of 33 titles focused on traditional hunting in the Southwest, specifically wood pigeons and wood pigeon blinds (palombières), rather than generic hunting treatises. Each item is collated before being cataloged: we check for foxing and the completeness of illustrations, which are crucial for pricing.

Our selection does not aim for comprehensive hunting coverage but rather regional coherence. The wood pigeon is its central theme: "Sous le vieux toit de la palombière" by Pierre Alciette (Plon, 1926), "La Chasse à la palombe" by Charles Dormontal (1933), "Les palombes" by Jean-Claude Abadie (1979), "Palombes et Colombes" by Jean de Bosschère (Stock, 1940). Added to these are two publications from the Gironde hunters' federations, including Businelli's study on the turtledove and "Les chasses traditionnelles girondines en 1981." This concentration on wood pigeon blinds and Bordeaux imprints such as Éditions de l’Orée is our distinctive mark compared to a generalist catalog.

Provenance is often the decisive criterion.Les chasses de palombes et des tourterelles, illustrated by LAMOTTE and R. Reboussin, bears an autograph inscription signed by M. Dubourdeaux, president of the Gironde Hunting Federation: an associative piece linking the object to the local institution, exactly the criterion we prioritize when purchasing. For distant hunts,Chasses dans l’Amérique du Nord(Révoil, illustrated by Yan’ Dargent, Mame, Tours, 1873) remains a 19th-century reference. As members of SLAM and LILA, we store these works between 18 and 20 °C and 50 to 60% humidity.

Beyond hunting, this regional collection connects with our other Southwest sections.antique fishing book, antique Basque Country book, antique gastronomy and oenologyandantique Gascony and Landes bookextend the same logic of terroir and local bibliophilia.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do you appraise an old hunting book?

Regional or institutional provenance weighs as much as the condition: an inscription related to the subject can influence the value, as can a period binding or a rare first edition. We appraise your work for free at the KOEGUI bookstore; as members of SLAM, we base our pricing on verifiable market references.

Are old books on wood pigeon hunting valuable?

Yes, especially regional Southwest titles that have not been widely reprinted. The value varies depending on the author, illustrator, and print run. In our collection, 20th-century wood pigeon blind works, such as Alciette (1926) or Dormontal (1933), remain sought after by Gascon and Gironde collectors.

Which regional Gironde and Gascon hunting books do you buy back?

We primarily seek editions from the Gironde Hunters' Federation, Bordeaux imprints (Éditions de l’Orée), and anything related to wood pigeons, turtledoves, and traditional Southwest hunting. Copies with inscriptions or local provenance are of particular interest to us.

Does an autograph inscription change the value of a hunting book?

Significantly, when the signatory is linked to the subject. Our copy of "Les Chasses de palombes" by Dr. Rocher bears an inscription from the president of the Gironde Hunting Federation: this institutional provenance adds a value that the text alone does not possess. We systematically document it during both purchase and sale.
