Under "history of ideas," the Koegui bookstore gathers nearly five hundred titles: philosophy, linguistics, social and political sciences, law and economics, psychoanalysis. This structure reflects a collection built over ten years in Bayonne, not a generic section reconstituted for the occasion.
The core remains 20th-century French philosophy.Critique of Dialectical Reason, Sartre, original edition, limited to 85 numbered copies on Lafuma Navarre vellum, sits alongsideEarth and Reveries of Repose, Bachelard, original edition enhanced with an autograph inscription signed by the author. Two different ways to own a seminal text: the numbered deluxe edition, and the direct trace of the author on their own book. The collection also holds special encounters: our copy ofEmpire of Signsby Roland Barthes (Skira, 1970), original edition, bears an inscription from Barthes to Rosabianca Skira, his publisher's wife.
Linguistics deserves special attention: one hundred and nine titles, a rare proportion for a generalist colleague. The collection preserves several studies by Hugo Schuchardt on the Basque language, alongside regional grammars and dictionaries, a direct echo of the bookstore's Basque Country roots. This continuity between the scholarly collection and the region is something we find every year in libraries valued between Bayonne and the Southwest.
Each entry is verified before cataloging: justification of the print run, condition of the jointsand headcaps, search for an autograph inscription when the description suggests it. This is the method we apply to a large-paper Sartre as well as to a Schuchardt offprint.
To delve deeper into a specific category:philosophy, social and political sciences, law and economics, religion and spirituality, andesotericism and Freemasonry. Readers looking for an old book in the broadest sense will find here its densest variation in terms of ideas. Collections blending several disciplines are welcome: this is the most common case in libraries of ideas.
Both are in the catalog, but in different proportions: philosophy has two hundred titles, while religion and esotericism have a more concentrated collection. We do not artificially inflate these sections to give an impression of volume.
We collate each title, verify the edition and print run, then apply the SLAM method for pricing. Appraisal remains free, even for a collection blending several disciplines of ideas.
This is a specificity of the Koegui collection, linked to our roots in Bayonne: several studies by Hugo Schuchardt on the Basque language are featured, alongside regional grammars rarely grouped elsewhere.
Yes, significantly. Our copy of Bachelard, Earth and Reveries of Repose, bears an autograph inscription signed by the author: this type of provenance distinguishes the copy from a simple regular printing, even in the original edition.
