Binder color
Originally, opulent bindings were made of ivory and metal, laden with jewels; ordinary account and ledger books were covered in white leather and parchment. From the 17th century onwards, colours became lighter, patterned with sky blue, lemon, and orange. Pink, pearl grey, pale green, and pale "La Vallière" leathers became abundant.
