Spine
The spine of a book is the outer part of the book that is only visible on the shelves when the book is shelved. For a book spine to meet the desired conditions, it must be sufficiently rounded, the sewing on the bands must be normally spaced, the gilding must be understated, and the title, while clear, should be concise.
The book spine generally includes the title of the work and, if applicable, the author's name.
