Fanfare

The word "Fanfare" is a bookbinding term referring to foliage ornamentation created in the 17th century by the Eve family. It was the binder Thouvenin who introduced this term into the trade by re-binding the following work: Les Fanfares et couvées abbadesques des Roule-Bontemps de la Haute et Basse-Cocaigne, printed in Chambéry in 1613.

The fanfare binding is a style of bookbinding that originated in the 16th century and was practiced until the first third of the 17th century.
