Paleography

Paleography is the science of ancient writings. Not only does it involve reading and interpreting old, often undated documents, but it also requires identifying the manuscript, researching its chronology, anticipating reading difficulties, and determining its authenticity through critical analysis of formulas, salutations, date expressions, and also the study of its seals, if any.
