Previously unpublished preface, in which Huysmans explains the genesis of À Rebours. The work, representative of symbolism and the decadent movement that accompanied it, is rich in classical culture.

This magnificent book made its mark on the history of illustrated books in the twentieth century. Carteret considered the work a "tour de force of typographic printing, for the perfect realization of the colored woodcuts."

In a bordered slipcase. Full black morocco binding. Ribbed spine with date at the tail. Gilt top edge. Original covers and spine preserved. Binding signed P. Goy and C. Vilaine. Edition adorned with 220 original woodcuts in the text (friezes, borders, headpieces, tailpieces, and vignettes) designed, engraved, and printed in color by Auguste Lepère. Text printed in multiple colors by the illustrator himself. The typeface used was specially engraved by Georges Auriol and engraved by Georges Peignot.
