This magnificent book marked the history of illustrated books in the twentieth century. Carteret considers the work a "typographic tour de force, for the perfect realization of the colored woodcuts."

Edition adorned with 220 original woodcuts in the text (friezes, borders, headpieces, tailpieces, and vignettes) designed, engraved, and printed in color by Auguste LEPÈRE. Text printed in several colors by the illustrator himself. The typeface used was specially engraved by Georges Auriol and engraved by Georges Peignot.
