In a bordered slipcase and red half-morocco chemise with flaps. Full red morocco binding. Smooth spine with gilt author and title. Covers and spine decorated with a scattering of small gilt stars and composed of 21 silver surgical clamps arranged in a circle, with 8 concentric gilt circles in the center. All edges gilt. Original wrappers and spine preserved. Doublures adorned with a wide red morocco border with multiple fillets, and a black mosaiced band, double endpapers of red satin and red and gold wallpaper. Binding signed G. H. LILLAZ, gilding by A. Jeanne. Illustrated with 16 plates not included in the pagination.
