Full crimson morocco binding. Ribbed spine with ornate gilt tooling. Gilt fillets and dotted borders on covers. Royal blue morocco doublures edged with a floral garland. Double endpapers. All edges gilt. Binding signed MERCIER Sr. de Cuzin. First printing of the illustration by E. MEISSONIER: portraits of the author and the dedicatee (S. Lavalette) and 40 wood-engraved vignettes in the text.

Third, definitive edition, augmented with 12 unpublished tales. These saucy and witty texts are the work of the commander of the Reims Guard, son-in-law of Veuve Clicquot, who had published the collection anonymously.
