In a folded, slightly browned wrapper. The book is housed in a blue buckram-backed folder and a brown and tan morocco slipcase by G. Cretté.
Edition of "The Happy Prince" and "The Nightingale and the Rose," two Oscar Wilde stories translated by Albert Savine.
Edition illustrated with color compositions by François-Louis Schmied, who engraved and printed them on his hand presses. Collaborators: Pierre Bouchet and Théo Schmied fils, engraver-printers.
Aside from the cover illustration and the 5 full-page woodcuts, the edition is illustrated with 27 thin vertical headpieces in the first story and 23 horizontal ones in the second, plus an initial letter for each story and monochrome tailpieces. These abstract headpieces, far from being considered decorative by Schmied, are for him a true illustration for which he provides a table and legend at the end of each section.
The illustration also includes 2 small woodcuts and 4 vertical woodcuts for the tables, and a small color headpiece for the colophon.
