A re-edition of the work that the famous 17th-century preacher, Bossuet, dedicated to his pupil, the Dauphin of France. In this work, the master aimed to perfect the education of the future monarch by telling him about the Kingdom of France, decadent Antiquity, and Charlemagne's Holy Roman Empire. For him, history is punctuated by the interventions of the Creator, all with the objective of making Christianity triumph.

Set of two volumes bound in brown half-calf. Smooth spines with floral motifs, florets, and triple gilt fillets. Spines with two black morocco labels: the first with the author's name and title inscribed in gilt, the second with the volume number. Gilt lace borders on the covers. Rubbing on all bindings. All edges marbled. Foxing within the contents. Handwritten ex-libris on the front free endpaper.
