Beautiful provenance for this second edition copy of this treatise on vulcanology in Auvergne (formation, activity, topography, influences, and incidences).Provenance: Ex-libris Edward Ellice, son of a Canadian fur trading family, influential British politician who was a Member of Parliament for Coventry (1818-63), Secretary to the Treasury, then Secretary at War. The Ellice family archives are preserved at the Bibliothèque de Montréal in Canada. The Ellice Islands were named in honour of the family, were a former British colony, now the independent state of Tuvalu (an independent Polynesian archipelago in the central Pacific Ocean).
