It is 1600, and Henry IV has already reigned for ten years on the throne of France, having put an end to the troubles of the Wars of Religion. At the time of the publication of this venerable document, "the good king" had to continue his efforts to maintain his authority and restore the kingdom. What better way to achieve this than with this book, the fruit of the royal historiographer's work? His arrival to power would thus be further legitimized, he who descended from a noble and ancient lineage of the Kingdom of Navarre, and rightfully inherited the crown of France.

Moderate rubbing on the morocco label, joints, and boards. Armorial bookplate in the form of a vignette on the paste-down. Original cover preserved. Untrimmed pages. Paper browned. Content adorned with headbands and decorated black and white initial letters. Handwritten annotations and halos on several pages. Small repairs on the last page. Missing folding plate.
