Translated from English. Second edition, corrected. Volume 2: Containing the continuation of the most remarkable events that occurred during the reign of Charles II, i.e., from 1664 to 1677. Volume 3: Containing the remainder of Charles II's reign; i.e., all that occurred from 1678 until the year 1685, in which he died. Volume 4: Containing the reign of King James II, from 1685 to 1689. Volumes 5, 6, and 7: Memoirs for the history of Great Britain, under the reigns of William and Mary, William III, and Anne I. Full blond sheepskin binding. Ribbed spine finely adorned with gilt compartments, red title and volume labels. Gilt lace on the edges. Three red speckled edges. Very clean and fresh interior. Illustrated with beautiful out-of-text portraits. The first volume of the English edition of History of his own times was published in 1724. The French translation followed in 1725. However, it was not until 1734 that the continuation of the Memoirs appeared in English with the French translation in 1735. Volumes 1, 2, 3, and 4 are from the second French edition, while Volumes 5, 6, and 7 are from the first French edition. The author, the Scot Gilbert Burnet of Leyes-Cromont (1643-1715), Anglican Bishop of Salisbury in 1689, had a long career as a clergyman and cosmopolitan traveler before receiving honors and prebends from the new English power.
