This work refers to a historical event: the Council of Embrun. This council was held in 1727 to decide the fate of Jean Soanen, a preacher and Bishop of Senez who had been accused of Jansenism. The affair - which led to the episcopal suspension of the man of faith - caused many stirs in the political sphere of the time, and led the author of this book to defend the accused.

Set of two volumes bound together in 1 volume with full brown sheepskin binding. Spine with five raised bands, ornate compartments, and gilt title. Binding shows advanced wear. Leather loss on the joint and corners. All edges speckled red. Handwritten inscription on the title page. Content adorned with historiated initials.
