The four tales are each illustrated by a different artist who used a particular technique: 18 original color lithographs by Alexandre Lunois for La Madone, 38 compositions by Eugène Courboin engraved in outline and then watercolored for L'Antéchrist, 33 compositions by Carlos Schwabe for L'Immortalité, including 10 in black engraved by Auguste Massé and 23 large watercolored floral borders, and a frontispiece and 47 Symbolist drawings by Alexandre Séon for La Fin du monde.

The magnificent illustrated cover on both boards is signed by Léon Rudnicki.

Binding in black morocco, with a large incised and painted leather inlay on the front cover bearing the title on a banner and a decoration of thorny branches and nettles, an inner frame adorned with two gilt fillets, and doublures and endpapers of gold brocade silk. Gilt edges over uncut pages. Covers without spine preserved. Binding signed Marius Michel.

This work, a perfect example of Art Nouveau production, is illustrated on each page with a color composition organized around the text.
