Émile Henriot (1889-1961) was the son of the caricaturist Henriot. Mobilized in 1914, he remained long marked by his war experience. At the end of the conflict, he began a career in journalism by joiningLe Temps,before becoming, after the Second World War, the official literary critic for Le Monde. But this leading figure in interwar literary journalism was also a writer. He first tried his hand at poetry, in the vein of Henri de Régnier. After the war, he turned to novels. But above all, one must mention the numerous essays he dedicated to the history of ideas and literature. He was elected to the Académie française on April 12, 1945, to the seat of Marcel Prévost.
