"The Trojan War Will Not Take Place is a play by Jean Giraudoux, first performed on November 22, 1935, at the Théâtre de l'Athénée, under the direction of and with Louis Jouvet. This work seeks to decipher the fratricidal motivations of the coming Second World War, as a warning. The author highlights the cynicism of politicians and their manipulation of symbols and the notion of law. The play sheds light on Giraudoux's pacifism, who had fought in France and at the Battle of the Dardanelles, but also his clear-sightedness in the face of "two kinds of stupidity, that of men and that of the elements."
