ORIGINAL EDITION of this account of the Battle of Fontenoy (Antoing, Belgium) which took place on May 11, 1745, during the War of the Austrian Succession, and resulted in a French victory led by Marshal Saxe. Edition produced under the direction of Paul Reveilhac (1847-1896), art lover and co-founder of "La Société normande du Livre illustré" with the collaboration of Albert de Broglie (1821-1901).
LIMITED EDITION of 100 copies on Marais vellum, including 25 not for sale. This one is numbered 1, signed by Adolphe and Alphonse Lalauze, and includes a double set of engravings: colored with remarks, and in black. It is enhanced with an ORIGINAL WATERCOLOR by Adolphe LALAUZE.

Housed in a bordered slipcase and chemise with raised bands on the spine, in red half-morocco. Full red morocco binding. Spine with raised bands finely decorated with gilt fleurs-de-lis in the compartments. Boards sumptuously adorned with gilt arabesques. Double fillet on the edges. Gilt dentelle on the inside. All edges gilt. Blue silk endpapers. Original covers and spine preserved. Binding signed MERCIER suc. de Cuzin. Illustrated with 13 etchings, color-printed to register by Adolphe LALAUZE after his original watercolors and those of his son Alphonse: cover and title vignettes, frontispiece, headpiece and historiated initial, 7 out-of-text plates including 1 double-page and 1 tailpiece.
