Théophraste Renaudot, born in Loudun in 1586 and died in Paris on October 25, 1653, was a French journalist, physician, and philanthropist. He is considered the founder of French advertising and the press through his two creations: the Bureau d'adresse (1629) and La Gazette, a weekly newspaper (May 30, 1631). As the King's ordinary physician, he was appointed "Commissioner for the Poor of the Kingdom."

Red half-morocco binding with corners. Spine with 3 raised bands, gilt title. Gilt initials F.B at the bottom of the spine. Spine slightly faded. Original wraps preserved. Foxing on text block edges and on 3 or 4 leaves. Otherwise, the paper is remarkably fresh. Portrait of Théophraste RENAUDOT at the beginning of the work.
