ORIGINAL EDITION of this novel which recounts the lives of the fishermen of Noirmoutier. Winner of the Prix Goncourt at 29, it was preferred over A. O Barnabooth by Larbaud, Swann's Wayby Proust and Le Grand Meaulnesby Alain-Fournier.

This is the third time since the official creation of the prize in 1903 that the Goncourt has been awarded to a writer of the sea.

One of the unnumbered copies on Holland paper.

Copy enhanced with an AUTOGRAPHED DEDICATION SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR to Léon Deffoux on the half-title page and an AUTOGRAPH LETTER from the AUTHOR to the same: "This copy, poorly printed, is on Holland paper and from a sold-out edition, which nevertheless gives it some value."

Also included is a flexible blue notebook with 6 handwritten letters from the author to Léon Deffoux.
