Prometheus Ill-Bound
Reference: 55853
"Poorly chained, indeed, since here he is in Paris in 1899, arriving from the Caucasus. And then, poorly chained, because this lover of men no longer needs chains - he has fallen in love with his bird; he feeds it, hoping that this plucked vulture resembling a conscience will become the beautiful eagle of progress, of the ideal, of soaring flight. Under this regimen, Prometheus wastes away. He would even die if, following a lecture he gave on the theme "To each his own eagle," his friend Damocles had not died from believing in it too much. At the fresh grave, Prometheus improvises a talk, very different from the first, in which he praises the destiny of Moelibée, the happy man who goes, naked, towards a pastoral happiness. After the funeral, he invites his friends to eat with him the very fat eagle, of which he has only kept the feathers."
