ORIGINAL EDITION of the text and first printing of the engravings on Japanese paper. Luxurious publication adorned with 30 original etchings by Charles JOUAS, 10 of which are out of text, printed in 20 copies on Japanese paper and 330 on vellum.

Precious copy from the illustrator, Charles Jouas, printed on Japanese paper and enriched with multiple pieces:- 21 large and beautiful original colored drawings offering captioned Parisian views and scenes,

different from those in the book- the etchings in 3 states- the in-text vignettes in 2 states- an unselected proof of the engraved title in color, printed in only 50 copies.

Included with the volume is a red chagrin-backed slipcase containing a suite of all the illustrations engraved on silk – the out-of-text plates in duplicate states – each print under a passe-partout. This silk suite is unknown to bibliographers. Carteret, Le Trésor du bibliophile, p. 212: "One of the artist's best illustrations, which deserves a high value, especially on large paper with the states."

In a bordered slipcase. Full brown morocco binding. The covers are adorned with a large gilt and mosaic frame with rosettes at the corners, spine with raised bands decorated in the same style. Inner frame of the same morocco with gilt fillets and corner florets. Purple silk doublures and endpapers, double endpapers. All edges gilt. Original covers preserved. Binding signed JOLY FILS.
