After a long stay in America, Joseph Mandrillon was one of the first to study the political system of the United States.

Here, he provides a precise and critical analysis of the drivers of prosperity in the 13 American states, one year after their independence. In the second part, the author develops the idea that the discovery of the New World was paid for by a shameful massacre and prosperity by slavery... Mandrillon then settled in Holland where he published political writings. Back in France, he was imprisoned as a royalist correspondent for the Duke of Brunswick and was guillotined by the Revolutionaries in 1794.
