FIRST EDITION containing a map of the St André orchards taken from the author's manuscript. This is one of 20 numbered copies not for sale. Enriched with a long autograph poem signed by the author addressed to Marie Monnier.

The story takes place under the Second Empire, between Le Vigan and Mont Aigoual, and recounts the lives of the people who worked on the road leading up to the summit. No plot, no twists and turns, just a great prose poem, inspired by this titanic work of digging into the mountain to create a road. It is above all the story of these men: Combes, Audibert, Payan, Triaire and the others, these peasants who temporarily abandoned their land to build theroad. Thisroad is the adventure of their lives. They are proud to participate in its construction despite the immense suffering it entails.
