Enriched with a beautiful signed autograph inscription on the half-title: "to my friend Gomès / in memory of the time / when, not far from the camp / of Cercottes, we / tried, the two of us / and twelve or fifteen / good comrades, to / revive the times / of the Petites Alliées, and / to elevate to this dignity / simple little friends / met by chance / during the war, ...we / tried, alas, in / vain.../ and with my friendship / Farrère / May 1918". The novel takes place in Toulon, in a world of young naval officers who entertain themselves with courtesans.
