FIRST EDITION of one of Michaux's most beautiful texts, written after the death of his wife Lou [Marie-Louise], who was transformed into a human torch after approaching an electric heater while wearing a synthetic dress. She died in hospital after a month of suffering and courage. The edition was published by Michaux's closest friend, Jacques Olivier Fourcade, under the publisher's name "J. Lambert [&] Cie". This bookseller-publisher had already founded his publishing house in 1929 and hired Michaux as a literary advisor, but following the crisis, had to sell his collection in 1931. Michaux stopped its distribution and prohibited any reprinting during his lifetime.
