FIRST EDITION of this work, which marks a pinnacle in the perfection of chromolithography, a technique patented in 1837 that Hullmandel perfected in 1840, making him one of its masters.

Thomas Boys, a trained engraver who became a painter, traveled from Flanders to Paris, passing through Dieppe and Rouen. From this journey, he brought back numerous architectural drawings of the regions he traversed, which Hullmandel's translation reveals to be of exceptional refinement.
