Charles Maurras, born on April 20, 1868, in Martigues and died on November 16, 1952, in Saint-Symphorien-lès-Tours, was a French journalist, essayist, politician, and poet, a member of the Académie française. A theorist of integral nationalism, he was one of the main leaders of Action Française.

"These Three Political Ideas (1898) are as valuable for the great political lesson they contain as for their nervous and delightfully ironic style, 'a kind of martial perfection' according to Pierre Boutang. The principle is simple and consists of successively denouncing the backward-looking illusions of the right and the progressive illusions of the left through the figures of Chateaubriand and Michelet, then proposing, under the aegis of Sainte-Beuve, the Maurrassian transcendence of this opposition."
