LIMITED EDITION OF 200 NUMBERED COPIES. One of 35 copies on Van Gelder Zonen Holland vellum paper, this one being more specifically one of 15 on this paper containing a suite in sanguine on pearlescent Japan paper signed by the artist, a suite of 10 additional plates on China paper, also signed, an ORIGINAL WATERCOLOR, a lead pencil drawing, and a copper plate. The watercolor here depicts a view of the city of Carcassonne, dated May 1956, and the drawing, dated September 24, 1955, depicts a view of Bocognano.

At nineteen, Gustave Flaubert, not without difficulty, obtained his baccalaureate. His father, Dr. Flaubert, offered him, as a reward, a "tour" of the south of France. The "tour" in question consisted of a journey that took the young man from his native Normandy to Corsica, passing through Bordeaux, Bayonne, Irun, Bagnères-de-Luchon, Toulouse, Languedoc, maritime Provence with Marseille and Toulon: each new discovery enchanted young Gustave, who enjoyed the sun and swam in the Mediterranean.
